Mom's Birthday + Speed Racers

I am the only adult I know who really likes to celebrate her birthday. I mean, I have to get older whether I like it or not so I may as well take advantage of my family being extra nice to me, eating treats, and getting phone calls from well-wishing brothers, sisters, friends, and family.

Drew raced in his first non-school event on the morning of my birthday. It was the Junior National Qualifier Races up at SoHo and the largest youth race in the world. He finished second to last, but he was the only boy from his school to race in his age group against kids who train fiercely, are on the traveling competition circuit, and ski in tights. We are super proud of him for even entering. We blame his finish on his less-than-aerodynamic outfit.

That evening Aunt Katelyn drove up to babysit so Dave and I could go on a date. We went to the World Cup Freestyle Aerial ski competition at Deer Valley. It was pretty cool. The jumpers look way higher in real life than they do on TV. I am certainly not an adventurous skier myself, I prefer green circle runs, but I sure enjoy watching other people fly high.

The next morning we awoke early, bundled up, and took Isaac to his race. The odds were in his favor as his only competition was a young lady from Colorado, and since they distribute awards by gender Isaac easily took home the first place medal for male under eight years old. Hey, sometimes just showing up counts for a whole lot in life so we think he more than deserves his award coaster.

When we arrived home Drew, Isaac and Eli left me outside while they fixed me a birthday lunch. What sweethearts!

Then, of course, there was the traditional birthday lunch with dad later the next week. We went out for Sushi in Park City. Eli and Charlotte tagged along. Eli ordered french fries and a side of rice, but started feeling sick half way through and was down for the rest of the weekend with a fever. Charlotte discovered a love of miso soup with tofu.

That was the end of my celebrations. Thanks family for making it a fun weekend!

How did I miss your blog?? Glad that we can extend your birthday clear into March this year. As fast as Drew has become on those skis, I am sure some spandex will move him right to the front of the pack! SoHo--I will have to remember to start calling it that!!
