The Piglet Plunge

Soldier Hollow, where Drew's and Isaac's school is, is also the site of a race called the Dirty Dash, a 10k run through mud, swamp, and water slide. Last year the race turned the recess grounds into an irresistibly  muddy expanse for kindergartners and second graders alike. One day after school, when the adults were distracted, Isaac and Drew found themselves marooned waist deep in the middle of a giant mud pit. They were at last able to extricate themselves, but not their brand new pairs of school shoes. As mad as I was about the shoes, I couldn't blame them wanting to wallow.

This year Isaac signed up with my permission and blessing. I don't harbor any fantasies about keeping him out during recess this next week, but at least this way I got to watch with a smile and take pictures.

The before shots.

Our friend Jenn ran the adult version of the race, the whole 10k, earlier that day. Later in the afternoon they opened the course up to the kids for the Piglet Plunge. Jenn ran with Isaac and her son, Little Drew. Here is the start, heading up the big muddy hill. (I don't know where they are.)

Isaac was a trooper--I think he ran the whole way, holding up his pants too. I had him wear clothes that we were throwing away anyway, including a swimsuit with a worn out waist band.

This is down the hill after gigantic slip 'n slide.

Lastly, they entered the "Pig Sty." I told him to look for last years shoes as long as he was in there.

And the after shots. Little Drew didn't love it like Isaac did. He says he doesn't like being dirty. HAH! Since when?

As we walked to the car Isaac asked if he still had mud on his face. "I want to leave it there!" he said. I made him wash it off for church today, but he is very anxious to brag to all his friends on Monday that he did the Dirty Dash.

My kids would have done it with them. (and my husband would have too). They had a similar race here last year called the JailBreak. I don't know if they are doing it again, but it looks like fun. Any luck finding the shoes?

Best Mom Ever! What a fun thing to let him do and to document it too!

These pictures have been making me laugh all day--especially, the one with him trying to hold his pants up! I am glad that he won't be looking for his lost shorts in the mud next year. This looks like just one more reason Soldier Hollow is the number one school in the state--teachers with ponytails, mud baths and skiing....and Draper elementary just keeps pushing those math facts, silly them!

I think the real question is why didn't you do the dirty dash with us Heather? Next year....next year. :) I love that those little boys did this. I wanted Canyon to do it. He said No way. wimps. Issac showed him whats up.

I think a part of me is glad we don't have enough water here to make mud... but oh, what fun!
